Training Programs

Backwoods Retriever Training offers a variety of different training programs depending on your needs and the current abilities of your dog. From obedience training to Waterfowl Hunting and Upland Hunting, each program will give you a more comprehensive knowledge of dog handling and training.

Backwoods Retrievers uses different exercises, such as avoiding and retrieving decoys, channel drills, technical blinds, and swimming, to train your dog. There are also numerous lots on the property that are used for standard and advanced force fetching drills, handling drills, and technical marks with and without the pond.

We believe that every dog, new or old, can benefit from training. Proper training can give you the control you need to enjoy a fulfilling relationship with your pet. We offer obedience classes for larger breed dogs. From simple commands to a particular problem, we can help!

We have a 14-acre facility where we simulate the hunt as realistically as we can. With assorted tech ponds and two acres of flooded timber on the property, your dog will experience birds, cover, gunfire, boats, blinds, water, and basic obedience.

We only train up to 16 dogs at a time because we like quality, not quantity! Each dog will receive equal attention in our training programs. Our trainers normally like to train dogs from the age of 4 months up to a year. This allows the dog's mindset to be right, so they can learn what they need to do and have the best advantage as well.

Our trainers also allow the dog to run and play at the end of the day so they can get additional exercise and just be a dog. This also allows the dogs to bond and feed off each other and what they have learned.
